DIY Wood Trees

DIY Wood Trees - The Monday Creative

So I am not a huge fan of the traditional Christmas décor so I went scouring the internet for some other simple ideas. I came across these wood trees on Pinterest and loved the look of them.

While it is a pretty simple DIY I found out the hard way that they aren’t as quick and easy to make as I thought. Despite the effort it took to cut out the shapes without completely destroying the wood I am pretty happy with how they turned out.

To make a set of your own you can follow the DIY I found here.

All you need to make the trees are:

  • Thin Wood sheets (I got mine off Amazon)
  • Exacto Knife (the sturdier the better because it took a little muscle to cut)
  • Paint
  • Masking Tape
  • Pencil and Ruler
  • A surface you don’t mind cutting on

I ended up measuring out everything in my sketchbook before working on the sheets of wood so I knew I fit all three trees. After that it is as simple as measuring and cutting. Cutting the slits to fit the pieces together was a bit of a pain in the rear end because the wood tends to splits super easy, I would try to make as few cuts as possible to avoid that happening.

After I had them all cut out I decided to copy the DIY and go with the black geometric/minimalist look. This is something I think I will definitely be trying again sometime now that I have an idea of what to do!
