When I went to photography school we were given a pretty big gear list of things we had to have. The list was full of everything from tripods and grey cards to lenses and cameras. Over the last six years I have found that some pieces of gear I use on a regular basis, while others just sit on the shelf collecting dust for the most part. I thought I would share a few of the items that I use the most and would replace if anything were to happen to them.
Canon 24-70 F2.8 lens – I use this lens 99% of the time. In fact I use it so much that at this point I am starting to get embarrassed to pull it out at photoshoots. Especially at weddings when everything is all nice and pretty and then there is me with my duct tape lens…it’s a good look. Long story short, this lens is the perfect in the middle focal length where you have a little zoom but also are able to take some wide shots. It is far from the cheapest lens but it is well worth every penny.
Wacom Tablet – I wouldn’t say that everyone NEEDS a tablet but they definitely make life easier. I use mine mostly for big edits because it is easier to control what you are doing since it is a little like using a pen and paper. My friend Melody on the other hand uses hers in all her editing.
Camera Backpack – More often than not I use my camera backpack over my smaller over the shoulder bag. Sure my Kelly Moore bag looks nicer but the backpack fits WAY more and is much easier to carry.
Memory Card Holder – This one may seem silly but I used to have memory cards floating around everywhere and those things are not cheap! Having a case to put your memory cards in just makes life easier and even better would be to have two, one for used cards and one for empty cards.
What are your photography gear must haves?
