I love working with alcohol inks. I feel like you can use them in so many different ways, they dry fast and best of all, you can go back and adjust your work even after it is dry (depending on the surface you have been working on).
I decided to try alcohol inks out on glass the other day and found these little jars at the dollar store. I had so much fun with it that I thought would share what I did.
This is a pretty simple and quick project so lets get right to it…
Supplies
- Alcohol Ink
- Glass Jars
- Varnish
- Gloves and something to cover your work surface because this is a messy project
(plus you may want to use some rubbing alcohol or blending solution but more on that down below…)
Normally with alcohol ink I would use blending solution or rubbing alcohol and a heat gun to move the ink around but the ink dries really fast on the glass and the blending solution just runs off the bottle which is not helpful in this scenario so I skipped both all together for these vases. I just added the ink straight from the bottle and let in run down the vase until the whole thing was coated.
I started out using reds and oranges but I found they didn’t really show up that well, the darker colours covered better.
Once the alcohol ink was dry I sprayed them with a varnish. I only had a matte varnish so that is what I used but if you like a shiny finish I would highly recommend using a gloss varnish instead.
Let them dry and fill them with whatever your heart desires!
If you give these fun little glass jars a go let me know because I would love to see them!
