Goodbye 2019

It’s true what they say, the older you get the faster the years go by. It’s got to the point now that it seems as if I just blink and another year is over and we are on to the next one. I have to admit I like the start of a new year, January first always feels like a new beginning an opportunity to make a change.

So 2019…when I think about the year as a whole it seems like it was just a lot of schoolwork and running. That is pretty much all I did for the first seven months of the year.

I think the thing that sticks out the most from the year was my two half marathons. Whistler was a beautiful run, the perfect combination between road and trail, people and no people. You can read more about that race here.

SeeWheeze was a pretty crazy race and an experience I think every runner should try at least once. There are SO. MANY. PEOPLE. You are never running on your own for the entire 21 kilometers, in fact I felt like I was constantly dodging people the entire race. That probably doesn’t make it sound like much fun and that part really isn’t much fun but the energy of the race makes up for it. There are people cheering you on and things happening all along the course so you almost forget how far you’ve run and how much further you have to go. To top it all off all the race swag was pretty awesome not gonna lie… I could write an entire blog post on SeeWheeze by itself because while it is very much worth running at least once but the weekend as a whole is pretty overwhelming when you’ve never been and I would definitely do things a bit differently if I got in again (namely not stand in line for the runners store, not worth the wait when there are other things to do) Here’s to hoping I get in to the race again this year!

There wasn’t a whole lot of time for hiking or really anything else but here are a few random photos from the year…

So I turned 30 in 2019 and I had the best cake ever…I mean how can you ever go wrong with doughnuts!! They were delicious and I would like to put in a request that the next cake I get be the same pretty please!!

Here is a random photo from a wander Melody and I went on, we definitely didn’t get out on as many hikes as we would have liked so hopefully that will change this next year!

We had a big crew camping September long weekend this year, I think there was something like 20 kids. Melody and I managed to squeeze in a bit of a kayak one of the days that weekend which was a ton of fun!

My roommate and I had a bit of a friendsgiving this year and it was the first time I’ve made Thanksgiving dinner, it turned out not too bad if I do say so myself.

Melody and I went and tried a paint nite, very fun though I am not used to painting an actual picture, I tend to do more abstract paintings, so it took everything in me to patiently go step by step.

We actually took family photos this year…everyone should be amazed, we have only been planning to take photos for about three years now. Photo by the wonderful Melody Devitt Photography

I put my art in a craft fair for the first time which was fun. Will definitely be doing that again this next year!

And it seems fitting to finish of the images from the year with one from Christmas…that was one big turkey we had. Thirty pounds for nine people, not sure we had enough meat to feed us all…

So here we are at 2020, this year is also looking like a lot of running with a little schoolwork mixed in. I am signed up for a 30km that is happening in June, a full marathon which is happening in July, with the possibility of the SeeWheeze in August if I happen to get in (that one is a half marathon).

I am signed up for one course which starts next week and then I have one more to go after that and I’ll be done the Social Media and Digital Marketing program I have been doing. I may need a break from any school after that because I have to say it’s not my most favourite thing to do but it will be worth it…hopefully.

Who knows what else the year may bring, I mean I wouldn’t be opposed to a little travel, a lot more hiking, and other such fun things, I guess we will just have to wait and see!

Happy New Year, hope you have the best year yet!
